A Year of Short Stories

To get straight to it, I recently moved to Belgium. I had four or five plans for what I wanted to do here, but all of them fell through. (HOW.) So...now I spend every day at home, playing video games and applying to jobs.

It's boring as all get-out.

I was talking to my partner and he suggested that I try to come up with some concrete goals, of which I had none. He suggested writing poetry on the banks of the canal - mostly in jest, he knows how I feel about poetry - but it gave me an idea. I used to write a lot of short stories, but I stopped until just this past year, when I started attending that free-association writing group. I always find myself lacking for ideas when it comes to short stories, so it's a difficult thing for me to commit to.

But then I found r/writingprompts on Reddit. Every day, so many ideas - so many possible stories! And I don't have to come up with any of them! So many opportunities.

And thus I made a decision: I'm going to try to write for 30 minutes every day, based on a writing prompt, and write a single short story. Now I know I'm going to have days when I don't feel like doing that, or days where I'm too busy. But I'm going to do my best to write something I'm even moderately proud of and stick to something for once in my life.
